- BRADEN CHIARAMONTE RECORDS HIS BEST 360 WINGED FINISH FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 24 HOURS
(El Cajon, CA, May 15) Last Friday night at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California, Braden Chiaramonte notched a third-place finish in the 25-lap main event. It was his best-ever result in a winged 360 race. Twenty-four hours later at the Placerville Speedway, he went one step better when he placed second in the winged 360, 25-lap main event. Thirty-two cars showed up for the "Mother's Day Madness" race on the famous ¼ mile, red clay Placerville Speedway. As usual, Chiaramonte was on his game from the start. In qualifying, he recorded a sizzling lap of 11.113 in the Tiner/Hirst-owned Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH. That was good enough for the second fastest time in the 16-car group "B." Being the fastest in group "B" meant the El Cajon, California driver, would start fourth in the fourth, eight-car, eight-lap heat race. Once the green flag dropped, "Spare Change" was part of an exciting first lap. He initially slipped back to fourth. Going into turn three, the third-place car parked on the low line. That opened up a huge window for Chiaramonte to race around the outside. As he started to go past, the slowing car got clobbered by another driver attempting to slice his way through on the inside. That collision shot the car Chiaramonte was trying to pass straight up the track and nearly into him. Fortunately, Chiaramonte got the #94TH slowed down and only had minimal contact. Chiaramonte's quick reflexes prevented what could have been a disaster. With that behind him, he got right back to work. By the time the first lap ended, he was up to fourth. Down the back chute on lap two, he picked off another car and was up to third. Even though he was third, he was far behind the two first-place cars. They had established a huge advantage over the rest of the field due to the first-lap chaos. With only six laps to go on the small track, Chiaramonte did not have time to catch the lead duo and finished third. That was good enough to directly transfer him into the main event. After a B main that looked like a bad horror flick, the A main went relatively smoothly. Chiaramonte started the 25-lap finale inside the second row in third. At the end of the first circuit, he was fourth. A picture-perfect slider in turn four on the second lap saw him advance to third. He quickly pulled away from that car and set his aim on the driver in second. Chiaramonte remained third until the 18th lap when he threw another immaculate slider in turn 4 to move up to second. He pulled that move off just in time as seconds later, a car slid to a stop in turn four. That brought out a yellow flag. The good news was, the caution allowed Chiaramonte to move directly to the leader's rear for the restart. The bad news was that the leader was Andy Forsberg. The 47-year-old has nine Placerville track championships and was seeking his 70th win on the track. Once the race resumed, Chiaramonte attempted to stay close to the Placerville legend. They pulled away from the remainder of the field. Forsberg eventually moved away from his teen pursuer. With four laps remaining, the wily veteran had a 1.666 lead, but Chiaramonte started coming on. He was closing in fast on the race-long leader but ran out of laps. When the checkered flag waved, he had cut the leader's advantage down to 0.622. "This track has not had my luck for sure," Chiaramonte told the appreciative crowd after the exciting race. "I have went off one (turn one) too many times. Just to come here and have speed all night and finish top three feels really good. I started getting better in three and four and started to catch him a little bit but just ran out of laps. We were really good. Thank you to Kyle, Steven, Tom, and everyone for helping me, working on this car, and getting me where I am. Kyle is a really good coach and Steven is really good on the wrenches. So, I just have to do my job." For the second night in a row, Chiaramonte received praise from the winner after the race ended. "You can barely beat the Tiner/Hirst cars," Forsberg announced to the fans at the end of the night. "This kid has raced like 10 times (winged 360s) and I have driven for 100 years and I can barely beat him. These kart kids and micro kids jump into sprint cars and they are so fast right away." For the next two weeks, Chiaramonte will be visiting a track that will be new to him. It is the Marysville Speedway which is located in Northeast California. This week he will be contesting a 360 winged race to get in some laps for next week's Sprint Car Challenge Tour show. Advance tickets are available at https://www.eventsprout.com/event/marysville-raceway-2024. Adult tickets are $17.00. For seniors 62+, military (with id) and juniors (12-15) it is $15.00. For kids 6-11 it is $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. Family tickets for two adults, 2 Juniors or three kids are $50.00.The track is located at 1468 Simpson Lane in Marysville, CA. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 PM with racing at 7:00. Chiaramonte will finish the month of May on Friday the 31st when the Sprint Car Challenge Tour visits Placerville. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE RECORDS HIS BEST 360 WINGED RESULT AT SILVER DOLLAR SPEEDWAY
(El Cajon, CA, May 13) Teenage racing star Braden Chiaramonte scored his best finish in a 360-winged sprint car when he raced past the checkered flag third in the main event last Friday at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, California. The impressive young driver led 21 of the 25 laps in the crowd-pleasing race. Chiaramonte was only making his fifth appearance, and the first since last August, at the famous track that is 600 miles north of his El Cajon, California home. However, driving the Tiner/Hirst-owned Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH, he looked like a veteran who has spent decades on the ¼ mile oval. The field was split into two groups of 22 cars each for qualifying. Chiaramonte found himself in the first group and he stopped the clocks at 11.954. That was fourth best in his group and seventh best of the 44 cars on hand. The time landed the talented young driver the pole position for the second eight-lap heat race. When the green opened the preliminary, he flew into the lead, never looked back, and scored a convincing win. Chiaramonte's prowess in qualifying and his heat garnered the third starting spot for the A main. The confident young driver did not stay third for long. He flew by the second-place car near the end of the first circuit and then went to the top of the track to stalk the leader. Like his tenure in third, his time in second place was short-lived. In turn two on the third go around, the leader flipped and brought out a red flag. That handed the lead to Chiaramonte. When the race resumed, he flexed his muscles at the front. He immediately began to pull away from the remainder of the field. By the end of lap six, he had extended his advantage to nearly a half straightaway. Just past the halfway point, Chiaramonte was enjoying a comfortable lead. However, it got uncomfortable in turn four on lap 16. As he was about to lap the car at the back of the pack, the car spun in front of him. Fortunately, Chiaramonte in all of the cars chasing him steered around the spinner. Unfortunately, that meant when the race resumed the good-sized lead "Spare Change" had built up, went by the wayside. This time when the race restarted, the competition turned up the heat on the young driver. Nevertheless, Chiaramonte fended off their advances and maintained his lofty position at the front of the pack. He held the top spot until turn four on the next to last lap when veteran Shane Golobic slid him for the lead. Chiaramonte was still second going into turn three on the last lap when he was clobbered by another car coming up the inside. That pushed him back to third at the finish. "It is still good, but we almost had that (the win)," Chiaramonte told longtime announcer Chad Hennig after the race. "It is only, I don't know, my eighth winged sprint car race. To be up here is really good. Just a couple of mistakes cost me the win. But will learn from those and come back even better. I am looking forward and keeping my head up. Just learn from my mistakes and hopefully, we will be two spots better." "Big thank you to Steven Tiner and Kyle Hirst and everyone who helps on this car," Chiaramonte continued. "A.M. Ortega, my mom and dad, my grandpa and everyone else. Without them, this would not be possible." After the race, gracious winner Golobic praised Chiaramonte. "That 94TH has been fast," hats off to those guys Golobic said. "Those guys are ripping. It says something for a young kid like Braden Chiaramonte. He is a young racer who does not have a lot of laps on this track. To be able to hop in and run that curb on that big rough top like that is really a good job." Details of his second night of racing last weekend (at the Placerville Speedway) will be coming in the next day. For the next two weeks, Chiaramonte will be visiting a track that will be new to him. It is the Marysville Speedway which is located in Northeast California. This week he will be contesting a 360 winged race to get in some laps for next week's Sprint Car Challenge Tour race. He will finish the month of May on Friday the 31st when the Sprint Car Challenge Tour visits Placerville. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. - Andy Forsberg Races to 70th Career Win at Placerville Speedway
Andy Forsberg put the bad luck behind him on Saturday night as he raced his way to his 70th career win at Placerville Speedway, and his first win of the 2024 season.
- TULARE & STOCKTON DOUBLEHEADER WEEKEND ON TAP FOR NARC SPRINT CARS
(5/13/24 - Ben Deatherage) Sacramento, CA ... The wait for an entire weekend of NARC 410 Sprint Car Series racing is almost over, as the 900+ horsepower behemoths of the tour are in action not once but twice, this Saturday and Sunday! First, Thunderbowl Raceway will be the first stop on Saturday, May 18th, for KRC Safety Night. But wait, there is more! The Stockton Dirt Track will visit the reconfigured ¼-mile track for a Sunday Twilight Show spectacular for the rescheduled Salute to LeRoy Van Conett. Among them will be Easton, CA driver Caeden Steele, the current leader in the race for the NARC Rookie of the Year award. He sits ninth in the standings. "I'm excited to get back to 410 racing, especially Tulare," said Steele. "I have a lot of laps there, and that's one of my favorite tracks because it really fits my driving style. The season has been pretty great so far. We've been lucky enough to avoid some of the wrecks, so we'll see if we can continue that." The journey to the famed 1/3-mile clay oval in Tulare marks the fourth event of the 65th Anniversary season for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series, followed by the Stockton Dirt Track show. The companion divisions for the Tulare are the Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints and West Coast Sport Compacts, while the Bay Cities Racing Association Midgets will be on the card on Sunday for Stockton. Sunday's race will honor the living legend LeRoy Van Conett, one of the all-time great drivers to come out of California. The "Dragon from Galt" scored eight NARC titles (1969, 1970, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1980, 1981, and 1984) and won the track title at Calistoga Speedway on seven occasions. He was the 1976 Gold Cup Race of Champions winner at the defunct West Capital Raceway. He was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 1999. The Van Conett race was established in 2016, and Shane Golobic and D.J. Netto are tied for the most wins at this event, with two apiece. Championship Chase With three completed rounds in the 2024 schedule, the march for the King of the West championship is still in the early stages. Cole Macedo enters the weekend as the series point leader. He is a tough customer to beat on the track and has yet to finish outside the top five this season. The Lemoore racer, piloting the Tarlton Motorsports #21 entry, already has won two of three events in 2024 and is coming off of a fifth-place result at Antioch. Aromas driver Justin Sanders, the winner of last Saturday's show at Antioch, is only 11-points behind Macedo. Who to Watch Many Central Valley-based competitors will attend, several of which are competing for the Rookie Of The Year honors. Steele currently leads the chase as the BCCR Racing #121 entry has been incredible despite a limited number of 410 Sprint Car starts to his name. Gauge Garcia, from Lemoore, is looking to bounce back from a hard flip last weekend. The Keller Motorsports #2K team is also looking to try and build on their tenth-place finish in their most recent Stockton NARC outing. Dominic Gorden is looking to keep early-season gremlins behind him. The Clovis teenager had a season-best result last Saturday with his 12th-place effort. Mariah Ede made her NARC debut last weekend. She is one of the newest members of the massive pool of 410 talent from California and has an extremely bright future. The Fresno racer will be running both tracks for the first time in a 410 between the frame rails. Another local driver also making the journey is the aforementioned Netto, from Hanford, who is always a threat to win against the competition when he rolls into the pit area. The 2019 NARC champion has twice won with the series at Stockton, which happens to be the Van Conett Tribute and grabbed a victory at Tulare in 2015. Justin Sanders got a big win last weekend for the Mittry Motorsports #2X team at the Contra Costa County Clash. The Aromas racer didn't win; he dominated, leading all the laps of the feature, setting a quick time, and winning the dash. He will undoubtedly look to continue that positive momentum. Sanders was third in his last Tulare outing with NARC and has two Stockton wins. The previously referenced Golobic will looking to score his 16th career NARC victory. The Matt Wood Racing #17W entry has finished second in three shows so far. The Fremont racer will look to win his second career Tulare win with the series for the first time since 2018. His only two NARC wins at Stockton were during the Van Conett race. Other NARC 410 Series regulars in action will include 2017 champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Justyn Cox from Roseville, Oakley pilot Dylan Bloomfield, Billy Aton from Benicia, Penngrove's Chase Johnson, Chico pilots Nick Parker and Michael Ing, and Jarrett Soares of Gilroy. Other notable names expected will be two-time NARC champ Dominic Scelzi from Fresno, Lincoln's Tanner Carrick, and Ryan Bernal of Roseville. - Andy Forsberg surges to 70th career Sprint Car win at Placerville Speedway
Placerville, CA…Fans were treated to a tremendous night of racing during Mother's Day Madness at Placerville Speedway on Saturday. When all was said and done it was nine-time track champion Andy Forsberg in victory lane, after pocketing his 70th career Sprint Car win at the track. All four divisions displayed entertaining racing at the event, with fellow winners on the night including a first-time victor in Rod Oliver with the Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Models, Nick Baldwin with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and Mike Miller with the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks. The 25-lap Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Car feature was all about Forsberg, who turned back the clock and rode the cushion to perfection. The Auburn driver dominated things, much like he has over so many years at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds. The action behind him was marvelous however, with several drivers going at it and positions changing lap after lap. Jake Morgan of Fair Oaks looked impressive in the main event and moved into second on lap 11, making the pass of Jodie Robinson, who also looked solid in her Placerville return. As the race wound down 16-year-old Braden Chiaramonte climbed into second, while Placerville's own Shane Hopkins battled his way into third. Forsberg took the checkered flag over Chiaramonte, Hopkins, Morgan and Robinson in the top-five. Chiaramonte capped a strong weekend after finishing on the podium at Chico the previous night. Hopkins should also be commended for an excellent drive in the feature to earn a podium spot. Rounding out the top-10 were Bubba Decaires, Corbin Rueschenberg, Michael Faccinto, DJ Freitas and Tony Gomes. A total of 32 Sprint Cars competed at Mother's Day Madness. Isaiah Vasquez began the evening by earning the ADCO Driveline & Custom Exhaust Fast Time Award with a lap of 10.781. First-time winners are always a fun part of the program and that came to fruition last night, as Yuba City's Rod Oliver accepted his initial Placerville Speedway checkered flag. The long-time Ltd. Late Model driver led all 20-laps, but it didn't come easy as Lincoln's Dan Brown Jr. hounded him every step of the way. Previous event winner Anthony Slaney also made moves running the high-scary side of the bullring to close in on the lead duo. In the end it was a non-stop affair with Oliver claiming victory over Brown, Slaney, Tyler Lightfoot and Jay Norton. The Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks gave the crowd on hand their definite monies worth with an absolute barn burner in the main event. Orangevale's Tommy Sturgeon has been impressive during the early campaign and led laps once again on Saturday. Side by Side racing was prevalent all throughout the field in what was a non-stop 20-lapper. Around the halfway point Tribute to Al Hinds winner Kevin Jinkerson blasted into the lead and held command until Nick Baldwin went upstairs, taking over the top-spot. Exceptionally close competition was seen right down to the wire. The five-time Placerville champ Baldwin brought home the triumph over Jinkerson, a very fast Tyler Lightfoot, Dan Jinkerson and Sturgeon in the top-five. The Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks also provided a wild main event that almost went non-stop as well. Multiple different leaders were seen with Mike Miller, Howard Miller, Austin Struthers and Thomas Jensen all fighting for the top-spot at times. H. Miller found himself out front following the midway point, but an exciting exchange occurred on lap 16 that saw M. Miller come out ahead. Mike Miller grabbed the checkered flag ahead of Howard Miller, Jensen, Luke Costa and Paige Miller. Placerville Speedway will take a couple weeks off before coming back with one of the biggest events all season. The two-night Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial weekend occurs on Friday and Saturday May 31st and June 1st. Opening night is headlined by the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour, while the NARC 410 Sprint Cars invade the track for the only time in 2024 during the finale. Both nights also showcase the Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association. - AFTER A WEEK OFF, BRADEN CHIARAMONTE HEADS TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA FOR TWO RACES THIS WEEK
(El Cajon, CA, May 8) After spending last weekend watching his older sibling Bronsen win the Weedle Industries Perfect 10 Challenge Desert Race in Johnson City, California, Braden Chiaramonte will strap into the Tiner/Hirst #94TH sprint car for two races this weekend. The rising open-wheel star will be at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico on Friday. Twenty-four hours later and 130 miles to the south, he will be at the Placerville Speedway on Saturday. On Saturday's trip, Chiarmonte will appear on the two famous Nor Cal ovals for the first time in 2024. In the past, he has made four appearances at Silver Dollar. All four were in a winged 360 and his best result came at the 2022 Fall Nationals when he placed 10th in the A main event. Likewise, he has made four appearances at Placerville. Three of those came in 2023. Two of the four were in the same Placerville 360 Winged Sprints that he will be competing with on Saturday. He also has an appearance there with the Sprint Car Challenge Tour and one came with the USAC National Midgets at the end of 2023. His best finish on the red clay came last August 5th when he placed 12th in the track 360s. Between the winged 360, non-wing 410 and his outlaw micro, Chiaramonte has been at nine races this season. He has started nine he has started eight of the main events. He has two wins, three top-five finishes, and five top-10s. The victories came at a combined 360/410 sprint car show at Imperial Valley Raceway on March 9th and an Outlaw Micro race at Arizona's Adobe Mountain Speedway on March 30th. The only main he did not start came on March 16th at the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Series main at Perris Auto Speedway when a violent heat race crash ended his night early. This weekend's races will be Chiaramonte's third and fourth starts for Tiner/Hirst in 2024. His first appearance of the year in the Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition #94TH came at the Stockton Dirt Track on April 6th. Running 10th in the main early on, two cars got together directly in front of the young racing star. Chiaramonte slid sideways to avoid them and ended up getting his right-side Nerf Bar bent into his right rear tire. A quick stop in the pit area saw the crew slap on a new right rear and send him back to the battlefield. He started at the rear and drove forward to a 14th-place when the race ended. His other appearance for Tiner/Hirst came three weeks ago at Merced. After an impressive heat race win and second-place finish in the dash, Chiaramonte was running second in the main event when he slid off the top of turn two. Like at Stockton, that forced him to restart at the back and he impressively drove up to 15th before the checkered flag ended the race. For fans who wish to see Chiaramonte race at Silver Dollar Speedway, this Friday is Fan Appreciation Night. Spectator gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Tickets for those 19 and over are $15.00. Admission is free for everyone 18 and younger. Advance tickets are available at https://silverdollar.ticketspice.com/may-10th-racing-2024. The track is located at 2357 Fair Street in Chico (95928). - CRASH KNOCKS BRADEN CHIARAMONTE OUT OF USAC/CRA RACE AT PERRIS
(El Cajon, CA, May 1) Driving a brand new car, Braden Chiaramonte was working his way towards the front in the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA 30-lap main event last Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway. However, a tangle that involved some lapped cars gathered him in and knocked him out of the race with nine laps to go. Sadly, what could have been a top-five finish ended up being a 20th. After a practice session at the track the week before, Chiaramonte was debuting his new DRC Chassis along with a 410 engine obtained from Arizona native Sterling Cling who now does most of his racing in the Midwest. Of the 22 cars on hand on Saturday, Chiaramonte ended up 13th fastest in qualifying with a time of 17.031. That was his second-fastest lap in 2024 at the famous Riverside County half-mile clay oval. It was only surpassed by his 16.995 on March 16th. Chiaramonte, in his pretty #73B, started on the outside of the front row in the first 10 lap heat race. When the checkers ended the preliminary, he ended up fourth. That Kept him in contention for one of the invert spots to start in the first three rows of the main event. Unfortunately, after the second and third heat races, he was out of the invert and was forced to start the 30-lapper in 13th. In the main, like always, Chiaramonte was moving forward. He was picking off cars and confidently made his way into the top 10. At the halfway point, the talented young driver was up to eighth and seemed headed for the top five. However, coming off turn four on the 22nd circuit, he got caught up in someone else's mess and was done for the night with a 20th place finish. Despite other racing duties that saw the El Cajon, California resident miss the two USAC/CRA races in Arizona, Chiaramonte is still 21st in the championship standings and he is third in the Rookie of the Year chase. Chiaramonte is taking this weekend off to watch his older brother Bronsen race in the "Weedle Industries Perfect 10 Challenge" desert race in Johnson City, California. Next weekend he will be back in action in his winged 360 sprint car at a pair of races on two of the crown jewel tracks in Northern California. On Friday the 10th, he will be at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Twenty-four hours later and 120 miles south, he will compete on the banked, 58-year-old Placerville Speedway. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. RTL Traffic Control, AM Ortega, OCC Motorsports, Hyper Racing, Chop Design, Adams Motors, Hacienda Casa Blanca Fine Mexican Dining, Evil Plus Injection, King Racing Products, Tyner, and Keizer Wheels. If you would like to be a partner with one of America's fastest-rising racing stars, please contact Daniel Chiaramonte via email at mailto:dchiaramonte@rtltraffic.com or by calling (619) 988-7563. - TULARE'S CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA MEMORIAL NEXT FOR NARC 410 SPRINT CAR SERIES
(4/29/24 - Ben Deatherage) Tulare, California ...The 900+ horsepower fire-breathing cars and stars of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series are thrilled to return to Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday, May 4th, for the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial! The 1/3-mile clay oval action track in Tulare is renowned for its breathtaking action, lightning-quick speed, and edge-of-your-seat racing. "We're really excited to get back to Tulare," said Chico's Nick Parker, who is off to a hot start and enters the weekend fifth in the championship standings. "It's a track we've been okay at and struggled at sometimes, but I'm feeling really confident from some of our recent runs and that we continue to build off of our good finishes." The Faria Memorial marks the third round of the 65th Anniversary season for the Northern Auto Racing Club. It is the third different venue the popular series has visited in 2024. The schedule has also endured three rain-outs. The race is run in memory of two members of the storied Faria family. Chris unfortunately passed away in a farming accident in 1993, and Brian was tragically killed in an automobile crash in early 2006. This will be the first time since 2021 that NARC has been a part of the Faria Memorial. The companion division for the evening is the Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints. Championship Chase Despite still being in the early stages of the quest to become the King of the West, this Saturday kicks off a busy portion of the calendar as it will significantly indicate who will become the frontrunners for the prestigious championship title. It kicks off the meat of the schedule with 16-races in the next 11-weeks. Cole Macedo will lead the points table entering the Faria Memorial and is batting one-hundred-percent in the win column with NARC by taking care of business at both the Mini Gold Cup and the Asparagus Cup. After spending the last few weeks in the Midwest, the Lemoore racer, in the Tarlton Motorsports #21, recently posted an impressive fifth-place result at West Memphis, Arkansas' Riverside International Speedway on April 23rd with the High Limit Series and was fourth against the World of Outlaws on April 29th at Paducah International Raceway in Kentucky. Tanner Carrick, from Lincoln, is the current runner-up in the championship race and trails Macedo by a mere twelve markers. Carrick has posted two Top 10 results in two NARC feature starts and was on the podium with a third-place finish at the new Stockton Dirt Track back in April. Caeden Steele is the pacesetter in the Class of 2024 rookie race as he sits third in the standings. The Easton driver wowed the crowd at Chico when he was third at the drop of the checkered and is a star on the rise in the Golden State. 2017 champion Bud Kaeding is currently fourth in points and has yet to finish outside of the Top 10 with the series, including a season-best fifth at the Mini Gold Cup. The Campbell chauffeur has managed to score three victories at Tulare over the years when NARC has come to town, with his most recent trip to Thunderbowl victory lane on April 21st, 2018, during the Spring Nationals. Parker, originally from Tucson, Arizona, has shown moments of brilliance with NARC this year. The 2023 Rookie of the Year scored his first career NARC Top 5 at the Asparagus Cup. After finishing fifth at Stockton, the team is hungry to build on their April performance. Who to Watch Justin Sanders hopes to return to his winning ways for the Mittry Motorsports #2X team. The driver from the coastal city of Aromas was third the last time NARC was in Tulare during the Dennis Roth Classic last April. It is one of the few tracks on the schedule that Sanders has yet to win at with the tour, but that stat could easily change. 2021 and 2022 NARC champion Dominic Scelzi is excited to race with NARC for the first time in 2024. After spending the spring months on the East Coast and the Midwest, the Fresno wheelman has a trio of trips to the top of the Tulare podium, with his latest victory coming on May 13th, 2022, on the first night of the Peter Murphy Classic. Scelzi is the most recent victor of the Faria when he hit pay dirt in July of 2021. Roseville runner Justyn Cox can't wait to get back to the Thunderbowl. Last year, He captured the $18,383. payday at the Dennis Roth Classic for the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X team, his first career NARC triumph. Several other Central Valley contenders are expected to be in the house. They include 2019 NARC champ D.J. Netto from Hanford, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia returning behind the wheel of the Keller Motorsports #2K, Dominic Gorden of Clovis, and Tipton driver Dawson Faria. Netto won this event in 2015. Other NARC 410 Series regulars in action will include Oakley pilot Dylan Bloomfield in the Vertullo #83V, Billy Aton from Benicia, Penngrove's Chase Johnson, Chico pilot Michael Ing, and Jarrett Soares of Gilroy. Also expected to be in action are Fremont's Shane Golobic, Templeton native Kaleb Montgomery, and Ashlyn Rodriguez from Wilton. - Golobic grabs first career Tribute to Al Hinds victory at Placerville Speedway
Placerville, CA…Shane Golobic has won some big races in his career at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night the Fremont native added another, by racing to victory in the 21st annual Tribute to Al Hinds. Joining Golobic in victory lane on Saturday were Anthony Slaney with the Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Models, Kevin Jinkerson with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and Mike Reeder with the Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association. A strong crowd filled the grandstands and a packed pit area of 87 cars total helped us honor former Promoter Al Hinds at the event. The 30-lap Thompson's Family of Dealerships main event started out with Rio Linda's Isaiah Vasquez setting a torrid pace up front in the Rod Tiner owner No. 83sa machine. The action was fast and furious in the feature with several movers and shakers throughout. Golobic bided his time early while utilizing his veteran experience and then pounced following a lap seven restart. As Golobic now sat out front, 14th starting Landon Brooks had been making moves and drove up to second by the time a caution waved on lap nine. When going back to green Golobic held a steady lead until the race started to wind down. Brooks found speed late and closed right up on the leader with seven laps remaining, but tripped on the cushion, which gave Golobic the breathing room he needed. After that all eyes on were on a tremendous battle for second that featured Brooks and 10th starting Dylan Bloomfield, along with 16th starter Justin Sanders right in the mix as well. Golobic went on to accept the checkered flag for the $2,500 top prize and his 14th career Winged 360 triumph at Placerville Speedway. Bloomfield, Brooks, Sanders and Tanner Carrick completed the top-five. Rounding out the top-10 were Bubba Decaires, Shane Hopkins, Michael Faccinto, Tony Gomes and Joel Myers Jr. A stout field of 36 Sprint Cars competed at the Tribute to Al Hinds. The Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Models contested their second race of the season, and it was a first-time winner with Anthony Slaney bringing home the win. Rod Oliver hopped out to the early lead before Slaney overtook him on lap five. The Martinez driver then had his way with things up front and took the victory over Rod Oliver, Jay Norton, Tyler Lightfoot and Ray Trimble. The Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks showcased some of the best racing during the night, thrilling the crowd with several cars having a shot at victory in the main event. Orangevale's Tommy Sturgeon was blazing fast early on and led the way over the Jinkerson brothers, Kevin and Dan. Right around the halfway mark though Kevin Jinkerson sliced his way to the lead. Sturgeon stayed right with him until car issues ultimately left him parked on the infield. The closing circuits saw Kevin Jinkerson fend off brother Dan with Nick Baldwin right there in the hunt as well. At the line Kevin Jinkerson won out for his ninth career Placerville Speedway win. Dan Jinkerson came home second, followed by Baldwin, Tyler Lightfoot and Jason Palmer. The visiting Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association began their 30th season competing at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night. In the end it was Placerville veteran Mike Reeder standing in victory lane for the first time in roughly 30-years at the track. Rocklin driver Kevin "Hollywood" Bender sat out front much of the race, as side by side competition was seen often behind him. With just a few laps left however, he appeared to get a bit tight, and Reeder took advantage, cutting past him to make the winning move. At the stripe in was Reeder over a fast-closing Kinser Endicott, Bender, Dylan Shrum and Shawn Whitney in the top-five. The remainder of the top-10 was filled out by Cody Shrum, Ben Wiesz, Dan Geil, Tim Dodson and Gage Meyers. A robust field of 27 Dwarf Cars competed at the Tribute to Al Hinds. - Tribute to Al Hinds invades Placerville Speedway Saturday
Placerville, CA…After raining out a couple weeks ago, the rescheduled Tribute to Al Hinds is set to open the Thompson's Winged 360 Sprint Car season with a $2,500-to-win feature this Saturday at Placerville Speedway. Fellow divisions ready to tackle the quarter mile at the event include the Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Models, Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and the visiting Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association. The Tribute to Al Hinds began in 2004 following the passing of early track promoter and mentor, Al Hinds, a longtime Placerville resident and true race fan that touched the lives of many. Hinds was the second promoter of Placerville Speedway. He took operation of the track with business partner Richard Hirst from its founder, Bruno Romani, in 1968, three years after it first opened when the facility was built around an existing community football field. The operator of a local machine shop by trade, Hinds loved the community where he lived. In his final years of life, he enjoyed sitting with some of his best friends every night in the grandstands at Placerville Speedway and loved watching young talent make a name for themselves in the sport. Former track announcer and publicist Bill Sullivan said of Hinds, "From the day he set foot on the red clay at Placerville Speedway to the very last race he attended, Al Hinds continued to display his true love for auto racing and the community. Even in his final years he continued to help young drivers, entertain fans and most importantly he spent a great deal of time talking to and mentoring those that helped in speedway operations. When Hinds spoke, anyone who cared remotely about the future of the sport would sit down and listen." The inaugural Tribute to Al Hinds was captured by Roger Crockett, while last season saw Andy Forsberg claim his third triumph in the event. It was a special night for the nine-time Placerville Speedway titlist, as it marked his milestone 200th career victory. Dan Brown Jr. opened the Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Model season in victorious fashion last Saturday, while Nick Baldwin captured the win with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks. - High Banks of Merced Speedway ready for SCCT Saturday
Merced, CA…Merced Speedway has rapidly become one of the more popular tracks in the Golden State and this Saturday the Sprint Car Challenge Tour ventures to its high banks for a can't miss night of racing. The Merced bullring happens to be one of the more centrally located tracks in California, which should make for a solid field of cars from throughout the Northern and Central part of our state. The always action-packed quarter mile lies one hour and 45 minutes from Sacramento and just under an hour from Fresno. "We are excited to host the Sprint Car Challenge Tour at Merced Speedway this Saturday," commented track GM Doug Lockwood. "We don't have that many Sprint Car shows in Merced, but when we do, it's always a special time. It should be an outstanding field of competitors this weekend and it's your only chance to catch a Winged Sprint Car event here until the Outlaws in September, so hopefully everyone can come out and fill these grandstands." All cars that competed at the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour opener on April 6th will be vying for $3,000-to-win this Saturday in Merced, thanks to the www.shopkylelarson.com bonus up for grabs. The 24-car feature, as always, pays a guaranteed $400-to-start. Justin Sanders and owner Dale Miller picked up where they left off last year by recording a clean sweep at the SCCT opener in Stockton. The Aromas driver recorded his ninth career tour win, tying him with Fresno's Dominic Scelzi for the second most all-time. Sanders ran fourth at the Merced stop last season, while Scelzi raced to victory at the event, marking the first of his three SCCT triumphs in 2023. Both drivers will be tough to beat on Saturday but will be challenged by several of California's top racers. Fremont's Shane Golobic, Lincoln's Tanner Carrick, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield and Oregon driver Tyler Thompson rounded out the top-five on opening night with the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour recently. Other drivers among the top-10 on April 6th looking to move their way forward will include Chase Johnson, rookie driver Austin Wood, 2021 Merced Speedway winner Colby Copeland, Dustin Freitas and Mariah Ede. Freitas netted the PitStopUSA Hard Charger Award with his drive from 20th to ninth in Stockton. Tickets and Details: Adult tickets at Merced Speedway this Saturday April 20th cost just $25, juniors 11-17 will be $10, kids 6-10 are $5 and those five and under will be free. Tickets will be available at the gate on race day. The pit gate will open at 3pm, with the front gate opening at 5pm and pit meeting at 5:15pm. Hot laps will occur at 5:45pm, with Sierra Foothills Wine Services qualifying and racing to follow. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE'S RESULTS FROM THE ASPARAGUS CUP AT STOCKTON AND UPCOMING EVENTS
(El Cajon, CA, April 11) Rising Southern California star Braden Chiaramonte made the long trek north for last week's Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour "Asparagus Cup" at the newly configured Stockton Dirt Track. The young driver transferred directly from his heat race into the main event and finished 14th after having to restart at the back early in the going. Located east of San Francisco on the San Joaquin Fairgrounds, it was the first race on the track that was reconfigured from a half-mile to a quarter mile over the off-season. For Chiaramonte, who never raced on the half-mile, it was not his first race on the fairgrounds that is located 471 miles from his El Cajon, California home. Last June, he competed in a two-night Outlaw Micro 600 race at the Delta Speedway which is on the fairgrounds and only a few hundred feet from the dirt track. His best finish of the two nights was a fifth on June 22nd. Last week, the new track surface did present some challenges for the teams on hand starting with qualifying. Driving the well-known Tiner/Hirst Enterprises #94TH that is sponsored by Slade Precision Shocks/Larry Davis Farms/System 1 Pro Ignition, Chiaramonte timed in 11th fastest of the 16 cars in group B qualifying with a time of 14.809. Chiaramonte's first race of the night was the third heat. Eight cars lined up for the 10-lapper and only the top five would get an automatic ticket into the night's 30-lap main event. All he had to do was move up one spot to get a transfer to the main. That is exactly what he did but it was not without working hard as he was battling for position a majority of the race. By the time the finale rolled around, some portions of the track were taking on a lot of character. Especially turns three and four. Chiaramonte started 18th in the 24-car, 30 lapper, and nearly got bitten early in the race. A Talladega-style tangle in turn four that involved seven cars nearly blocked the entire track. It almost gathered Chiaramonte in. However, he alertly dove to the inside to narrowly escape the carnage that brought out a red flag. For the restart after the "Big One," Chiaramonte was 10th. However, on lap six two cars got together directly in front of the young star. With nowhere to go, he slid into them pushing the right-side nerf bar into the rear tire. That resulted in a trip to the work area where the Tiner/Hirst crew quickly straightened out the damage and sent him back out to battle. Starting at the back, Chiaramonte worked his way forward and at one point was up to 12th. When the checkered signaled an end to the rough and tumble affair, the young driver came home with a hard-fought 14th-place finish. "First wing race of the year is in the books and it was not a bad night," Chiaramonte told his Facebook followers a few days after the race. "Didn't qualify to good. Started sixth in the heat and finished fifth. Started 18th in the main and got up to 10th and two cars got together in front of me. Slid into them and the nerf bar was in the right rear tire. Got to the pits and they pulled it off. I went back and finished 14th. It was a good first night. I learned a lot and am ready for the next one." That next one was supposed to be at the Placerville Speedway on April 13th. However, like so many races in California early in the 2024 season, rain wiped that show out. This week Chiaramonte and the team will head north to Kevin Lockwood's racy Merced Speedway for the next round of the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour. In addition, the team is contemplating taking the micro along to race at the Delta Speedway in Stockton, which is 70-miles north of Merced, on Friday night. Spectator gates at Merced will open at 5:00 p.m. and the first green flag will fly at 7:00. The track is located at 900 Martin Luther King Drive in Merced, California. The website is http://www.mercedspeedway.net/ and the office phone number is (209) 383-7799. If things have not been busy enough, the team just rolled out its brand new DRC chassis to race with the Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA 410 Sprint Car Series. They finished building the car on Saturday and tested it Sunday morning at Perris Auto Speedway. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. - Tribute to Al Hinds initiates Placerville Speedway season on Saturday
Placerville, CA…Placerville Speedway is prepared to open its 59th season of action on Saturday by honoring a man that had a key role in making it all possible, with the 21st annual "Tribute to Al Hinds" taking to the red clay. Divisions set to usher in the championship season will include the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks, the Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks and the High Sierra Industries Wingless Spec Sprints. Saturday's Winged Sprint Car main event will also hand out $2,000 to the winner. The inaugural Tribute to Al Hinds was captured by Roger Crockett, while last season saw Andy Forsberg claim his third triumph in the event. It was a special night for the nine-time Placerville Speedway titlist, as it marked his milestone 200th career victory. Track champions last season with the Thompson's Winged 360 Sprint Cars, Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and Mountain Democrat Mini Trucks included Hanford's Michael Faccinto, Oakley's Nick Baldwin and Placerville's Mike Miller respectively. The High Sierra Industries Wingless Sprints make their first of four visits to the Placerville bullring on Saturday. They'll return for additional outings on Thompson's Fan Appreciation Night in June and both nights of the Nor*Cal Posse Shootout over Labor Day weekend. - $11,000 TO WIN PETER MURPHY CLASSIC AWAITS NARC 410 SPRINT CAR SERIES ON SATURDAY
(4/8/24 - Ben Deatherage) Hanford, California ... A crown jewel of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series schedule, the Peter Murphy Classic is on tap Saturday, April 13th, at Kings Speedway. The winner of the main event will collect a whopping $11,000 paycheck and etch their name on the prestigious winner's list of this famed event. The race pays homage to Kings Speedway promotor and longtime NARC competitor Peter Murphy. One of this events special features is a unique "pole shuffle" where two cars at a time will razzle and dazzle on the 3/8-mile clay oval to decide the main event's starting lineup of the front of the field. It is always a fan-pleaser. "I'm super excited to have this event come back to Kings," commented Murphy, a transplanted Australian and open wheel racing enthusiast. "Last year's pole shuffle was breathtakingly amazing, and the main event was a cracker, too, so come on out and bring a friend because Hanford is the place to be on Saturday night!" This will be the third round of the highly competitive 65th anniversary season of the NARC tour and the second five-digit payday for the main event winner. The companion division for the evening is the IMCA Stock Cars. Who to Watch Dominic Scelzi is looking to continue to reign supreme of the PMC. The Fresno driver has been on the road battling it out with the High Limit and World of Outlaw tour and is looking to come back to his native California and hit pay dirt. The 2021 and 2022 NARC champion is the three-time defending winner of the Peter Murphy Classic. NARC point leader Cole Macedo wants to take the $11,000 winner's check to the Tarlton Motorsports #21 shop. The Lemoore sensation bagged a $10,000 payday at the Mini Gold Cup in March and backed it up at the Stockton Dirt Track's Asparagus Cup last Saturday. Macedo has three top five finishes at Kings when NARC has been to town and was runner-up in the second main event of the Morrie Williams Memorial. Last October, Justin Sanders finally broke into victory lane at Hanford when he won the opening main event of the Morrie Williams Memorial. Once again piloting the Mittry Motorsports #2X, the Aromas driver has five podium finishes at the 3/8-mile oval and was fourth at last year's Classic. The last time NARC was on hand at Hanford, hometown driver D.J. Netto beat out the competition in the final feature of the Morrie Williams Memorial to score a big win for the team. Undoubtedly, the 2019 NARC champion is hungry to add the Peter Murphy Classic to his already decorated resume. Eighteen-year-old Dylan Bloomfield is a rising star in the NARC 410 Sprint Series. The Oakley driver has twice finished the Vertullo Racing #83V entry among the Top 10 at Kings and is looking to be among the podium finishers on Saturday night. He was 14th last year. Campbell's Bud Kaeding is looking to build off a top five finish last fall at Hanford. The 2017 NARC champ was fourth in the final race at King's in October 2023 and scored a victory at the facility on June 2nd, 2012. He was among the Top 10 at the 2022 Peter Murphy Classic when he posted a ninth-place result. Justyn Cox has been very close to conquering Kings twice. The Roseville racer was runner-up in the first feature of the Morrie Williams Memorial last October and did the same thing the previous year but in the second main event. Will the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X slay the competition at the PMC? The large 2024 rookie class will also be on hand, including Caeden Steele from Easton, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia, Chico chauffeur Michael Ing, and Dominic Gorden of Clovis. Other teams looking for victory lane include Chase Johnson of Penngrove, Nick Parker from Chico, Benicia veteran Billy Aton, and Gilroy's Jarrett Soares. Some other notables to look forward to are Fremont's Shane Golobic, Hanford driver Michael Faccinto bout the F&F Racing #X1, and Templeton pilot Kaleb Montgomery. Fan & Competitor Info Kings Speedway is located at the San Joaquin County Fairground at 1658 S Airport Way in Stockton, California. Tickets are $30.00 for Adults, Juniors (5-17)/Seniors (65+)/Military (with ID) $25.00, Kids (6-10) $5.00, and 4 and Under are FREE. The Pit Gates will open at 1:00 PM and the Front Gates at 4:00. The tour will again hand out $10,000 to its champion at season's end. Last year saw the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour have its closest championship battle in series history, with the top-three in points separated by just 11 markers following the Stockton finale. Clarksburg's Justyn Cox ultimately fended off Templeton's Kaleb Montgomery by four slim points to secure his initial SCCT title. Cox, who piloted the Bates-Hamilton Racing No. 42x, became the fourth driver to claim a Sprint Car Challenge Tour championship, joining Andy Forsberg, Ryan Robinson and Kyle Hirst. Despite coming up just short, both Montgomery and Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield made it an ultra-close fight right down to the end. Suisun City youngster Chance Grasty locked up the Garth Moore Insurance Rookie of the Year Award and finished fourth in the standings, while Clovis' Dominic Gorden completed the top-five. Dale Miller Racing captured their first SCCT owner championship last season in dominating fashion. Aromas wheel-man Justin Sanders piloted the car for much of the year and book ended the campaign by winning the opener in Placerville, along with the finale at Stockton. - NARC SPRINT CARS SET TO TACKLE ASPARAGUS CUP AT NEWLY CONFIGURED STOCKTON DIRT TRACK
(4/1/24 - Ben Deatherage) Stockton, CA ... The wait will soon be over as the highly anticipated reshaped Stockton Dirt Track is set to host the 900+ horsepower speed machines of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series. The Saturday, April 6th show will feature the West Coast top teams as they negotiate a new ¼-mile clay oval at the 2024 Asparagus Cup. "Sprint car teams have been asking for a reconfiguration of our track to promote even better open-wheel racing," explained promoter Tony Noceti. "We worked hard over the winter to meet that demand, and I'm proud of what we have created at the Stockton Dirt Track. Race fans are going to be treated to an exciting bullring of sprint car racing action on our new quarter-mile oval." With the newly configured track, all of the traveling teams will have to start from scratch, negating years of research and volumes of track notes on car set-ups. That makes the Asparagus Cup a wide-open affair with no team having a distinct advantage. This marks the second round of the Northern Auto Racing Club's 65th-anniversary series, that has already experienced two rainouts this Spring. The companion division for the evening is the Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360 Sprints. Who to Watch Colby Copeland will make his 2024 debut with the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series on Saturday, driving the Larry Antaya-owned #16A entry. Copeland, from Roseville, is the defending winner of the Asparagus Cup, claiming top honors in April of 2022. The 2023 event was rained out. "I know there's a little different shape of a track, but we are hoping to get dialed in be at the front," commented Copeland, who hopes to continue the Asparagus Cup success. "It should be interesting, but the thing is that everyone will start on the same track and no one will have an advantage on anyone else. "It would be good to win again. The #16A car was fast at the Mini Gold Cup with (Ryan) Robinson and should be fast at Stockton." 2019 NARC champion D.J. Netto has visited the trademark winner's circle twice at Stockton in NARC action. Both were Salute to LeRoy Van Conett events, and his most recent Stockton victory was in July of 2022. Cole Macedo is the lone winner on the current NARC circuit, having earned $10,000 at Silver Dollar Speedway's Mini Gold Cup. The Lemoore driver, aboard the famed Tarlton Motorsports #21, is looking to capture his first Stockton victory. His best 410 finish was a 14th-place effort in November 2018 at the Tribute to Gary Patterson. Justin Sanders is no slouch at Stockton, as he had an incredible performance at the 2022 Tribute to GP to close out the NARC season with a victory. Behind the wheel of the Mittry Motorsports #2X, the Aromas driver is looking to open up his 2024 winning account on Saturday night. Other NARC 410 Series regulars competing for a NARC victory include the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X driven by Clarksburg driver Justyn Cox, 2017 series champion Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Oakley pilot Dylan Bloomfield in the Vertullo #83V, Billy Aton from Benicia, Penngrove's Chase Johnson, Chico's Nick Parker, Jarrett Soares of Gilroy and many more. Placerville, CA…The Sierra Foothills situated Placerville Speedway will be the destination for the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour this Saturday, as the always competitive Winged 360 series opens its 2024 campaign. The annual "Spring Fever Frenzy" kicks-off a 17-race season for the Sprint Car Challenge Tour. It marks the first of three appearances at the popular El Dorado County Fairgrounds venue, which is located just a short drive from the capital city of Sacramento. The famous Placerville Speedway Easter Bunny will also make an appearance for photos with the kids on Saturday to commemorate Easter weekend. Live music will be performed by the band Mix Up from 4-6pm to coincide with Coors Light Happy Hour. With the www.shopkylelarson.com full-time Bonus automatically factored in, this Saturday's 35-lap feature will award $3,000-to-win and $400-to-start. The tour will again hand out $10,000 to its champion at season's end. Last season saw the Elk Grove Ford Sprint Car Challenge Tour have its closest championship battle in series history, with the top-three in points separated by just 11 markers following the Stockton finale. Dale Miller Racing also captured their first SCCT owner championship last season in dominating fashion. Aromas wheel-man Justin Sanders piloted the car for much of the year and book ended the campaign by winning the opener in Placerville, along with the finale at Stockton. Sanders has struck gold at the Spring Fever Frenzy each of the last two seasons. Former Spring Fever Frenzy winners, Andy Forsberg of Auburn and Tanner Carrick of Lincoln will both be favorites on Saturday. Forsberg has claimed nine career Placerville Speedway titles and earned his 200th career victory at the Tribute to Al Hinds this past season. Carrick was a winner on the red clay in July of last year and has shown the propensity to get around Placerville as well as anybody. Additional drivers looking to punch their ticket to victory lane at the Spring Fever Frenzy include Fremont's Shane Golobic, Hanford's Michael Faccinto, Modesto's Tony Gomes, Roseville's Colby Copeland and Sean Becker, Placerville's Shane Hopkins; Glendale, Arizona's Ashton Torgerson and many more. - BRADEN CHIARAMONTE PLANS TO RETURN TO ACTION MARCH 30TH AT PLACERVILLE
(El Cajon, CA, March 21, 2024) After escaping serious injury in a nasty crash during last Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series race at Perris Auto Speedway, Braden Chiaramonte hopes to be back in action when the Sprint Car Challenge Tour kicks off its 2024 season in the 8th Annual Sprint Frenzy at the Placerville Speedway on March 30th. Coming off an impressive win during the California Mid-Winter Fair at the Imperial Valley Raceway the previous week, the 17-year-old racer was hoping for another good run at Perris on Saturday night. Three weeks earlier he started 16th in the USAC/CRA main event at Perris and finished eighth. That had him eighth in points and second in the Rookie of the Year chase going into last Saturday's race. Chiaramonte qualified at 16.995 on the lightning-quick surface. That sent him to the second 10-lap heat race. The El Cajon, California driver turned his fastest lap of the heat on lap six. A lap and a half later, disaster struck. Contact with another car on the backstretch sent him into a long series of frightening flips. The young driver climbed out of the car and the track safety crew placed him in the ambulance for observation. A few minutes later they determined that he should take a ride to the hospital. After a short visit to the hospital, Chiaramonte was on the way back home. He was "pretty sore and swollen" according to his father Daniel but was already itching to get back into a race car. One he would not be getting back into is the one from Perris. That car was destroyed in the terrifying crash. Unfortunately, that included the engine. Daniel tried to find a 410 to get him on the track for Saturday's USAC/CRA race at Cocopah, but the search proved to be fruitless and he is sitting out this weekend. "Well, got my first big one out of the way," Chiaramonte posted to all of his Facebook followers. "Didn't have the night we wanted but that's part of racing. Big thanks to all the officials for the help getting me out of the car and everyone else that helped out. And big thanks to everyone for checking in on me and making sure I was all good. I'm ready to get back in the car and wishing we had a motor for this weekend." Look for Chiaramonte to return to action next Saturday, March 30th, at Placerville. It will be his first full-size winged sprint car start since last August at the Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico. Chiaramonte would like to thank all his sponsors who have made his racing efforts possible. RTL Traffic Control, AM Ortega, Hyper Racing, Chop Design, Adams Motors, Hacienda Casa Blanca Fine Mexican Dining, Evil Plus Injection, King Racing Products, Tyner, and Keizer Wheels. Placerville, CA…Placerville Speedway is eager to begin another championship season with the exhilarating sound of engines returning to the red clay this Saturday March 23rd. The El Dorado County Fairgrounds based quarter mile will present an exciting program of grass roots dirt track racing, including the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged 360 Sprint Cars, the Anrak Ltd. Hanford's Michael Faccinto pocketed the Thompson's Family of Dealerships Winged Sprint Car championship last season, giving owners F&F Racing yet another title. Faccinto put together an extremely consistent campaign last season and returns in 2024 looking for even more. After claiming three wins during the Hoosier Tires championship season last year Modesto's Tony Gomes hopes to secure another victory on Saturday. Gomes showed immense speed with C&M Motorsports and more of the same is expected this year. Rounding out the top-five in points last season were Shane Hopkins, Ashlyn Rodriguez and Rookie of the Year, Luke Hayes. Track legend Dan Jinkerson brought home his third consecutive Anrak Ltd. Late Model title last season after tallying three wins and seven top-five finishes. From a consistency standpoint Auburn's Ray Trimble was even with Jinkerson but missed out on the championship by just 20-points. Tyler Lightfoot, Rod Oliver and Dan Brown Jr. completed the top-five. The ground pounders will contest nine events this season in Placerville. Last season saw Nick Baldwin put together another stout campaign with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks. The Oakley, CA driver accumulated six wins and finished among the top-five all but once, on way to his fifth career track championship over Kevin Jinkerson. The Pure Stocks will see 13 total nights of racing. Waterford's Dakota Albright picked up four wins last season with the Bay Cities Racing Association Lightning Sprints at Placerville Speedway. - NARC 410 SPRINT CARS SERIES SET TO INVADE MERCED SPEEDWAY ON SATURDAY!
(6/18/24 - Ben Deatherage) Merced, California ... The Central Valley is about to hear the roar of the 900+ horsepower powerplants of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series on Saturday, March 23rd, when the tour returns to Merced Speedway! The high-banked ¼-mile clay oval will host the cars and stars of the NARC organization for the first time since August of 2021 and will be the lone visit to the facility in 2024. This marks the second stop on NARC's 65th Anniversary 25-race campaign, which is slated to visit 17-different dirt oval tracks in California, Oregon, and Washington. "I'm super excited to get to Merced," said Lemoore driver Cole Macedo, hot off a big win at the Mini-Gold Cup in the Tarlton Motorsports #21 sprint car. "I know (promoter) Doug Lockwood has put in a lot of effort to make that place what it is today. I think Drew Warner (crew chief) will give me a fast race car, and if I do my job, we should come out with a good finish." Macedo is the current NARC championship point leader after scoring his second NARC feature win of his career in Chico. Many of the NARC sprint cars stars will be competing on the action-packed bullring for the first time, including a strong class of rookie drivers. This year's rookie field includes Lemoore's Caeden Steele, who finished third in Chico, Fresno's Gauge Garcia, Dominic Gorden from Clovis, Chico's Michael Ing and Wilton's Ashlyn Rodriguez. Who to Watch Aromas' Justin Sanders, expected to be a strong challenger for the 2024 NARC title, will be looking to rebound after a crash took him out of contention in Chico. Sanders hit pay dirt in the series' last visit to the track in August 2021 and knows that a victory gets him right back into the title hunt. Shane Golobic, who finished second in the NARC season opener in Chico, is looking to put the Matt Wood Racing #17W car in NARC victory lane for the first time at Merced Speedway. Golobic placed fifth in 2021 and was 16th when the World Of Outlaws visited in March 2022. Bud Kaeding, who claimed the series title in 2017, still doesn't have a Merced victory on this impressive resume. He came across the line in sixth when NARC was in Merced last time. With a retro look for the #29 team, the Campbell racer is looking to check off Merced on his win list. Tim Kaeding, from San Jose, will no doubt wow the crowd in the famed Williams Motorsports #0 entry. The "Governor of Good Times" was fourth in the last NARC trip to Merced. Kaeding is hitting the NARC trail heavy this spring and the 2002 and 2011 series champion is hungry to revisit victory lane. He has 72 NARC victories to his credit. Chase Johnson of Penngrove has a lot of laps and wins at Merced in many different types of cars, but the pilot of the #24 has yet to win in the 410 ranks. Johnson was third in a USAC-CRA race in September of 2019 and is in search of his fourth career NARC win. Other NARC 410 Series stars expected to compete include Justyn Cox from Clarksburg, Oakley's Dylan Bloomfield, Billy Aton of Benicia, Gilroy 's Jarrett Soares, Kaleb Montgomery of Templeton, Michael Faccinto and DJ Netto from Hanford and many more! Fan & Competitor Info The companion divisions for the evening include the Hobby Stocks, Mini Late Models, and IMCA Northern SportMods. Merced Speedway is located at 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way in Merced, California. Tickets are $25.00 for Adults, Juniors (11-17) $10.00, Kids (6-10) $5.00, and 5 and Under are FREE. Pit Gates will open at 2:00 PM and the Front Gates at 5:00. Hot Laps are expected to begin around 6:00, with racing kicking off at 7:00. Additional information can be found at www.mercedspeedway.net. The NARC racing format includes qualifying, four eight-lap heat races, an exciting six-lap trophy dash, a 12-lap last chance race, and a 30-lap main event. The NARC 410 Sprint Series is the leading 410 Sprint Car tour west of the Rocky Mountains. Since 1960, they have enthralled countless thousands of fans from tracks up and down the Pacific Coast. For more information, visit their website at www.narc410.com or social media pages. The event at Merced Speedway can be viewed live on Floracing.com, along with every NARC 410 Sprint Car Series race. - 2024 NARC 410 SPRINT CAR SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP OPEN FOR THE TAKING!
(2/27/24 - Ben Deatherage) ... With a brand-new season for the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series right around the corner, it's incredible to think of all the potential drivers that could win the King of the West title, let alone a feature event during the 2024 campaign. With 26 nights of exciting action taking place at so many different racetracks along the Pacific Coast, things are definitely up for grabs. Below is a look at where success and some upsets could come from with the regulars and frequent visitors to the NARC tour. THE REGULARS The first category we will explore is the drivers slated to compete regularly with the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series in 2024. Justin Sanders, from Aromas, hit the jackpot on the final night of the Jim Raper Memorial Super Dirt Cup, at Alger, Washington's Skagit Speedway, by winning over $80,000 for Mittry Motorsports #2X last June, as well as winning the overall Morrie Williams Memorial at Kings Speedway in mid-October. Undoubtedly, all the success he achieved in Australia the previous winter, coupled with several trips to the Midwest, made him a force to reckon with in 2023 and this coming season. To date, he has scored 15 NARC wins. Returning behind the wheel of the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X, Justyn Cox from Roseville will also be a front-runner in the championship battle. Cox scored a massive triumph at Tulare's Dennis Roth Classic with $18,000+ in winnings in April and eventually was crowned the Sprint Car Challenge Tour 360 title winner. Undoubtedly, he's looking to add a NARC 410 Sprint Car Series crown to his trophy case come the Tribute To Gary Patterson at Stockton in November. Campbell's Bud Kaeding knows what it takes to achieve a championship with the NARC Series. The 2017 title winner once again finished in the top five in the final standings, and nearly collected a win at Petaluma Speedway during the May visit. It seems all it will take for Kaeding is to win once, and then the victory machine will be hitting on all eight-cylinders again. He has 21 NARC wins to his credit. Speaking of Petaluma, race fans are still talking about the amazing Salute To Baylands victory that Chase Johnson scored in July. The Penngrove pilot may have only won once last year with NARC, but he managed to accumulate some wins with and without the wing and in both 360 and 410 powerplants. Johnson no doubt will have a diverse 2024 schedule, which also includes Midgets on the calendar. Once more driving the Dave and Debbie Vertullo #83V, Dylan Bloomfield proved he can hang with the NARC ranks for an entire season. The Oakley driver managed a pair of Top 5 feature finishes and finally had a breakthrough victory in 360 competition on the preliminary night of the Fall Nationals at Silver Dollar Speedway. Could that translate into a David Tarter Memorial or Mini Gold Cup win this season when the tour visits Chico? Don't bet against it. Billy Aton will be another familiar face to see when the NARC group hits the road. Aton is excited about NARC's return to Santa Maria Speedway in 2024. What makes that track special is that it is the site of his lone NARC triumph in 2021. The Benicia driver and his team are a great group to have around with their infectious smiles and "no quit" attitude despite 2023 starting so rough for them in the spring. After being named the NARC Rookie of the Year at last year's championship celebration, Nick Parker is looking to build on that accolade. The Tucson, Arizona native, now residing in Chico, has a full year of NARC racing under his belt, making the rounds of the multiple tracks on the NARC campaign. That experience has culminated in a detailed notebook of improvements and nuances needed for success. That should spell improved performance for his team that should result in top finishes. Jarrett Soares will return to the NARC 410 Series when the engines fire up on March 9th. Returning to full-time series competition for the first time since 2016, the Gilroy gasser will be a delightful addition to the cast of characters tearing up the clay. Last year, Soares scored a pair of Non-Wing 360 Sprint victories at Antioch Speedway and traveled across the state of California as well as into the Pacific Northwest. THE ROOKS We've talked about some of the regulars, but a unique twist to the NARC 2024 campaign will be the youth movement by drivers who are still cutting their teeth in Sprint Cars and some with just a handful of starts in a 410. The battle for the Rookie of the Year award will be a barnburner from March to November. Dominic Gorden got some 410 racing under his belt late last year. Under the tutelage of crew chief Richard Brown, the Clovis teenager scored a trio of 360 triumphs, twice at Ocean and once at Marysville, as well as collecting the Western Sprint Tour title. Gorden didn't have much of a quiet offseason as he won six Caged Clone races at the Chowchilla Barn Burner and got the big payday at Nevada's Reno Livestock Events Center in February during the High Desert Hustle. He promises to be a top ten fixture. Lemoore driver Gauge Garcia spent last year splitting driving duties between the Tarlton Motorsports #21X and the Keller Motorsports #2K. Garcia had a pair of 360 wins in 2023, including the Cotton Classic in October at Kings and a thriller of a win at Tulare in May. His best NARC finish was a third at the Morrie Williams Memorial race. Garcia plans to chase the rookie title aboard the Keller Motorsports ride. Fresno's Caeden Steele is another individual to watch closely. Steele had some great battles with Bud Kaeding at Ocean Speedway on Friday nights in the Ocean Sprints 360 ranks, including posting a win in late August. Something noteworthy is in late July, he was able to record a sixth-place result at Skagit Speedway against a stacked field of 410 competitors with a 360 in between the frame rails. Another addition to the series will be Chico-based team of Michael Ing. The 22-year driver has five-years of experience in both 360's and a limited amount of time in 410's and will be driving a family owned and operated team with David Ing on the wrenches. Concord's Joey Ancona opened some eyes with some stellar NARC performances in a handful of races last season. The 19-year-old driver posted a NARC season best third place finish at Antioch Speedway last season. He still retains his "rookie" status in 2024. THE SPOILERS The last topic to cover is the many potential spoilers that will enter the battle during the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series. What makes NARC such an incredibly tough series is that anyone can win on any given night. Despite not running full-time with NARC in 2024, Dominic Scelzi will still be a force to reckon with. The two-time series champion has already logged many laps, filling in for James McFadden with the High Limit Series. This move reunited him with the Roth Motorsports team. Whether it's in Washington, Oregon, or California, the Fresno driver is sure to be upfront. He will be racing around the country and plans to return to California in May for the balance of the NARC season. Scelzi has 22 NARC victories on his resume'. 2023 saw one of the biggest comeback stories in Sprint Car racing. After shattering his collarbone at the Trophy Cup in October 2022, D.J. Netto returned and won. In his first race in March of 2023, he bested the ASCS-Southwest Region competition at Central Arizona Raceway. The Hanford pilot finally returned to NARC victory lane when he scored his seventh career NARC victory at the Morrie Williams Memorial at the end of the second Twin-20 main event. Carson Macedo won the NARC title in 2015, but one thing he did not do is something his younger brother Cole Macedo managed to accomplish in June, win a NARC feature. The younger Macedo took care of business at Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon, and was the only driver to beat eventual tour champion Corey Day during the Fastest Four Days Of Motorsports. Macedo also has spent some time in Florida and Georgia racing the Kevin Newton #16TH with the High Limit Series. He is a threat to win on any given night. With two trips to Silver Dollar Speedway, the 2022 SDS track champion Shane Golobic is one driver to not discount. The Matt Wood Racing #17W team has got Chico ¼-mile on lock and has won eight races in the last two seasons. Finishing sixth on the final night of the Gold Cup Race of Champions, the Fremont native wowed the crowd at Ocean Speedway when he finally won the Howard Kaeding Classic at Watsonville in July. He had ten victories between 410, 360, and Midget competition. He has 15 career NARC wins. Whether it was in the Larry Antaya #16A or the Jim and Annette Van Lare #5V, Colby Copeland was always a contender for a victory. The Roseville racer won with the Van Lare's at Placerville Speedway at the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial mere days after his car owner lost his father. This made for a very powerful post race interview in victory lane. Copeland would back that up with another emotional victory lane visit at the Van Lare's home track at Petaluma when they bested the SCCT on the adobe 3/8-mile oval. Making a healthy number of NARC starts last year was Tanner Carrick. From Lincoln, Carrick won the first Sprint Car race in California in 2023 when he won the Sherm and Loree Toller Memorial at Marysville. He would get additional 360 wins at Ocean and Placerville. Carrick is notable for already achieving a win in 2024 by winning the Monday prelim at the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, on January 8th, which makes him the first Midget feature winner in the United States for this year. He is looking for his first career NARC win. 2005 NARC champion Sean Becker can be expected to make some appearances throughout the upcoming season. Now calling Roseville home, Becker had his best run with NARC on July 8th when he finished fourth at Petaluma. He closed the year out with an electric 360 win at Marysville with a win on Paul Hawes Memorial Sprint Spooktacular in late October. Last year, Andy Forsberg would collect his 200th career victory when he won the Tribute to Al Hinds at Placerville on April 15th. Three more additional wins, all at Marysville in 360 action, would add to the Auburn veterans total. Come the Mini Gold Cup and the David Tarter Memorial at Chico, he should be fun to watch. He was fourth on May 28th, his lone 410 top five of the campaign, and five total top tens at Chico for the four-time Silver Dollar Speedway track champ. Even though he spent much of the summer helping his son Cole in Kage Karts, Willie Croft was still fun to watch in his limited appearances with the NARC 410 Series. Croft, who resides in Colfax, posted two top-five finishes in eight 410 starts. This included a pair of runner-up finishes, getting one on May 28th at Silver Dollar and another at Skagit on July 22nd. Whether in California or his native Pacific Northwest, Trey Starks is always on the prowl for a win. Nearly capturing the prelude to the Dennis Roth Classic while racing for Scelzi Motorsports in April, he was also a contender at Grays Harbor Raceway's Timber Cup and the Dirt Cup. The two-time and defending Skagit Speedway track titlist from Puyallup, Washington, is looking to be the first Washington native to win the prestigious Dirt Cup since Seth Bergman did it in 2018. Tanner Holmes will be a fun driver to watch as he comes off a stint with the Shark Racing #1T after the Knoxville Nationals. This earned him a significant cram session in the final few months of 2023. Undoubtedly, he gained some valuable experience taking on the World Of Outlaws, expanding his knowledge of some new tracks and fierce competition that bettered his driving abilities. The Jacksonville, Oregon racer enjoyed a great Dirt Cup last year and posted several strong showings with the NARC series in the springtime. One of the Cinderella stories of 2023 was Michael Faccinto during the Dave Bradway Jr. Memorial at Placerville. Faccinto, from Hanford, set quick time, collected a large amount of money with all the bonuses and contingencies, and almost pulled off a massive upset finishing second. The team which he drove for, which claimed the Placerville 360 championship, was the Friends & Family #X1 owned by Alan Bradway, Dave's brother, and Steve Tuccelli. Those are just a few of the interesting scenarios and stories taking place on the NARC tour this season. When you mix it all together, it promises to be a very entertaining season of open wheel racing on the left coast. So pick your favorite driver and team and we will see you at the NARC races.
