- PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY SCHEDULES THE BROTHER BRETT CLASSIC ON AUGUST 16TH
(Perris, CA, April 28, 2024) During the intermission at last Saturday's Avanti Windows and Doors USAC/CRA Sprint Car race at Perris Auto Speedway, promoter Don Kazarian announced to the fans that the 30-lap main event at the August 16th California Racers Hall of Fame Night will be known as "The Brother Brett Classic." Thus, the official title of the event will be, "The Brother Brett Classic on California Racers Hall of Fame Night." "Brother" Brett Taylor had been at the Perris Auto Speedway and the Ventura Raceway for years. Amongst the drivers, crews, fans, and series officials, he is one of the most popular persons ever involved in open-wheel racing in Southern California. In the pits and the stands, he greeted and chatted with everyone and his love of racing ran deep. "It was a crushing blow to everyone involved in sprint car racing in Southern California when Brett passed away on March 18th," promoter Don Kazarian said. "He knew everyone and everyone was his friend. When he walked up to you, it put a smile on your face. He would enter a team's pit area and immediately everyone would start smiling. Even if someone were down, a visit from Brett would lift their spirits. He is sorely missed by everyone." Before last Saturday's race, Perris Auto Speedway honored the longtime racing worker/fan with memorial laps. With all of the drivers and crews standing by the crash wall and all of the fans standing, Matt Mitchell, one of Brett's favorite drivers, turned laps on the half-mile oval. There were a lot of wet eyes on the track and in the stands while the ceremony was taking place. "Brett would come into my office and ask me for something to do," Kazarian recalled. "On his own, he would collect money for the push truck drivers to help them with their expenses. When we had fundraising drives for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, Brett would get a helmet and collect money. He was always there for whatever you needed. He was the happiest and most honest person you could ever hope to meet." "Having the Brother Brett Classic at the California Racer's Hall of Fame Night is a natural," Kazarian continued while talking about his friend. "All of his buddies and heroes who currently race cars will be here. A bunch of guys he loved and who loved him from days gone by will also be on hand." Several nights of racing will take place before the August 16th date and the first will be this Saturday, May 4th, when LKQ Pick Your Part Presents the "Craziest Show On Dirt," Night of Destruction. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and the crashing will commence at 7:00. Adult tickets for Saturday's fast paced show that is usually over between 9:30 and 9:45 are $20.00. For kids 6-12 it is only $5.00 and children 5 and under are free. The fairgrounds charge $10.00 for parking. Advance tickets are available 24 hours a day at tix.com or by calling 1-800-595-4849. If you do not wish to buy advance tickets, no problem at all. There will be plenty available for everyone at the ticket window beginning at 5:00 on Saturday. - TULARE'S CHRIS & BRIAN FARIA MEMORIAL NEXT FOR NARC 410 SPRINT CAR SERIES
(4/29/24 - Ben Deatherage) Tulare, California ...The 900+ horsepower fire-breathing cars and stars of the NARC 410 Sprint Car Series are thrilled to return to Thunderbowl Raceway on Saturday, May 4th, for the Chris & Brian Faria Memorial! The 1/3-mile clay oval action track in Tulare is renowned for its breathtaking action, lightning-quick speed, and edge-of-your-seat racing. "We're really excited to get back to Tulare," said Chico's Nick Parker, who is off to a hot start and enters the weekend fifth in the championship standings. "It's a track we've been okay at and struggled at sometimes, but I'm feeling really confident from some of our recent runs and that we continue to build off of our good finishes." The Faria Memorial marks the third round of the 65th Anniversary season for the Northern Auto Racing Club. It is the third different venue the popular series has visited in 2024. The schedule has also endured three rain-outs. The race is run in memory of two members of the storied Faria family. Chris unfortunately passed away in a farming accident in 1993, and Brian was tragically killed in an automobile crash in early 2006. This will be the first time since 2021 that NARC has been a part of the Faria Memorial. The companion division for the evening is the Kings of Thunder 360 Sprints. Championship Chase Despite still being in the early stages of the quest to become the King of the West, this Saturday kicks off a busy portion of the calendar as it will significantly indicate who will become the frontrunners for the prestigious championship title. It kicks off the meat of the schedule with 16-races in the next 11-weeks. Cole Macedo will lead the points table entering the Faria Memorial and is batting one-hundred-percent in the win column with NARC by taking care of business at both the Mini Gold Cup and the Asparagus Cup. After spending the last few weeks in the Midwest, the Lemoore racer, in the Tarlton Motorsports #21, recently posted an impressive fifth-place result at West Memphis, Arkansas' Riverside International Speedway on April 23rd with the High Limit Series and was fourth against the World of Outlaws on April 29th at Paducah International Raceway in Kentucky. Tanner Carrick, from Lincoln, is the current runner-up in the championship race and trails Macedo by a mere twelve markers. Carrick has posted two Top 10 results in two NARC feature starts and was on the podium with a third-place finish at the new Stockton Dirt Track back in April. Caeden Steele is the pacesetter in the Class of 2024 rookie race as he sits third in the standings. The Easton driver wowed the crowd at Chico when he was third at the drop of the checkered and is a star on the rise in the Golden State. 2017 champion Bud Kaeding is currently fourth in points and has yet to finish outside of the Top 10 with the series, including a season-best fifth at the Mini Gold Cup. The Campbell chauffeur has managed to score three victories at Tulare over the years when NARC has come to town, with his most recent trip to Thunderbowl victory lane on April 21st, 2018, during the Spring Nationals. Parker, originally from Tucson, Arizona, has shown moments of brilliance with NARC this year. The 2023 Rookie of the Year scored his first career NARC Top 5 at the Asparagus Cup. After finishing fifth at Stockton, the team is hungry to build on their April performance. Who to Watch Justin Sanders hopes to return to his winning ways for the Mittry Motorsports #2X team. The driver from the coastal city of Aromas was third the last time NARC was in Tulare during the Dennis Roth Classic last April. It is one of the few tracks on the schedule that Sanders has yet to win at with the tour, but that stat could easily change. 2021 and 2022 NARC champion Dominic Scelzi is excited to race with NARC for the first time in 2024. After spending the spring months on the East Coast and the Midwest, the Fresno wheelman has a trio of trips to the top of the Tulare podium, with his latest victory coming on May 13th, 2022, on the first night of the Peter Murphy Classic. Scelzi is the most recent victor of the Faria when he hit pay dirt in July of 2021. Roseville runner Justyn Cox can't wait to get back to the Thunderbowl. Last year, He captured the $18,383. payday at the Dennis Roth Classic for the Bates-Hamilton Racing #42X team, his first career NARC triumph. Several other Central Valley contenders are expected to be in the house. They include 2019 NARC champ D.J. Netto from Hanford, Lemoore's Gauge Garcia returning behind the wheel of the Keller Motorsports #2K, Dominic Gorden of Clovis, and Tipton driver Dawson Faria. Netto won this event in 2015. Other NARC 410 Series regulars in action will include Oakley pilot Dylan Bloomfield in the Vertullo #83V, Billy Aton from Benicia, Penngrove's Chase Johnson, Chico pilot Michael Ing, and Jarrett Soares of Gilroy. Also expected to be in action are Fremont's Shane Golobic, Templeton native Kaleb Montgomery, and Ashlyn Rodriguez from Wilton. Fan & Competitor Info Thunderbowl Raceway is located at the Tulare County Fairgrounds at 620 South K Street in Tulare, California. - Thornton Sweeps Mid-Atlantic Weekend with Port Royal Triumph
PORT ROYAL, PA (April 28, 2024) - Ricky Thornton Jr. swept the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Mid-Atlantic swing, winning on Friday night at Georgetown Speedway in Delaware and Sunday night at Pennsylvania's Port Royal Speedway. Thornton led every lap of the Battle in the Borough to score his 33rd career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series win. With the weekend sweep Thornton becomes the first driver to go over $100,000 in season earnings after picking up the $10,000 victory at Port Royal. It was not easy at Port Royal for Thornton as Mike Marlar stayed within striking distance throughout the race. Marlar ended up in the runner-up spot at the checkers; 1.538 seconds behind the winner. Garrett Alberson earned his second straight Big River Steel Podium finish by taking third. Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran, who dropped back as far as 15th rallied to round out the top five. "I felt like my stuff was really good there," said Thornton who was in Lucas Oil Victory Lane for the fifth time in 2024. "I was trying to play it a little in one and two, but I think I let Mikey get a little closer to me. Luckily the yellow came out because I think maybe he would have won. I have got to thank whoever brought out that yellow because it put me back out front. It was starting to get a little treacherous there up top, but I figured if you were going to win you had to be up there." "I have a little bit of body damage. I had to settle back down a little bit after I saw Mikey there. You go so fast down the straightaways here it's easy to overshoot the top and that will get you in trouble. I knew I had to calm down; like I know we have a good car, so I didn't want to mess it up. For the most part most the traffic was patient, and they left me a lane around the top." Marlar tried several times to pull even with Thornton in turns one and two but could never muster enough to clear him to officially lead a lap. "That's just how it goes sometimes. Ricky should have won the race here last year, but broke. That's part of the comings and goings in racing. I'm just glad we were able to race him good. We were horrendous on Friday night. We got rained out last night, so it feels good to head back to Tennessee on a good note. This track is unbelievable. You can race 10 different ways here into the corner. I felt like I drove the car good there and felt like I made good decisions. I got by him, but it didn't work out." Alberson earned his third, third-place finish of the season - inching closer and closer to his first career series win. "Hats off to the track crew; that thing was really fun; you could move all over the place. I think we needed to stay green there because they [Thornton and Marlar] started dicing there in lapped traffic and I kind of had a lane that they weren't running in. I think it could have gotten really good. I am just super stoked to drive this car and I love these big tracks." The winner's Todd and Vickie Burns, SSI Motorsports ,Longhorn Chassis is powered by a Clements Racing Engine and sponsored by Big River Steel, Hoker Trucking, Coltman Farms, Dyno One Inc., West Side Tractor Sales, Bilstein Shocks, EMD Wraps, and Sunoco Race Fuels. The rest of the top ten finishers were Max Blair, Mason Zeigler, Jimmy Owens, Tyler Erb, and Carson Ferguson. - Golobic grabs first career Tribute to Al Hinds victory at Placerville Speedway
Placerville, CA…Shane Golobic has won some big races in his career at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night the Fremont native added another, by racing to victory in the 21st annual Tribute to Al Hinds. Joining Golobic in victory lane on Saturday were Anthony Slaney with the Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Models, Kevin Jinkerson with the Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks and Mike Reeder with the Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association. A strong crowd filled the grandstands and a packed pit area of 87 cars total helped us honor former Promoter Al Hinds at the event. The 30-lap Thompson's Family of Dealerships main event started out with Rio Linda's Isaiah Vasquez setting a torrid pace up front in the Rod Tiner owner No. 83sa machine. The action was fast and furious in the feature with several movers and shakers throughout. Golobic bided his time early while utilizing his veteran experience and then pounced following a lap seven restart. As Golobic now sat out front, 14th starting Landon Brooks had been making moves and drove up to second by the time a caution waved on lap nine. When going back to green Golobic held a steady lead until the race started to wind down. Brooks found speed late and closed right up on the leader with seven laps remaining, but tripped on the cushion, which gave Golobic the breathing room he needed. After that all eyes on were on a tremendous battle for second that featured Brooks and 10th starting Dylan Bloomfield, along with 16th starter Justin Sanders right in the mix as well. Golobic went on to accept the checkered flag for the $2,500 top prize and his 14th career Winged 360 triumph at Placerville Speedway. Bloomfield, Brooks, Sanders and Tanner Carrick completed the top-five. Rounding out the top-10 were Bubba Decaires, Shane Hopkins, Michael Faccinto, Tony Gomes and Joel Myers Jr. A stout field of 36 Sprint Cars competed at the Tribute to Al Hinds. The Mountain Democrat Ltd. Late Models contested their second race of the season, and it was a first-time winner with Anthony Slaney bringing home the win. Rod Oliver hopped out to the early lead before Slaney overtook him on lap five. The Martinez driver then had his way with things up front and took the victory over Rod Oliver, Jay Norton, Tyler Lightfoot and Ray Trimble. The Red Hawk Casino Pure Stocks showcased some of the best racing during the night, thrilling the crowd with several cars having a shot at victory in the main event. Orangevale's Tommy Sturgeon was blazing fast early on and led the way over the Jinkerson brothers, Kevin and Dan. Right around the halfway mark though Kevin Jinkerson sliced his way to the lead. Sturgeon stayed right with him until car issues ultimately left him parked on the infield. The closing circuits saw Kevin Jinkerson fend off brother Dan with Nick Baldwin right there in the hunt as well. At the line Kevin Jinkerson won out for his ninth career Placerville Speedway win. Dan Jinkerson came home second, followed by Baldwin, Tyler Lightfoot and Jason Palmer. The visiting Nor-Cal Dwarf Car Association began their 30th season competing at Placerville Speedway on Saturday night. In the end it was Placerville veteran Mike Reeder standing in victory lane for the first time in roughly 30-years at the track. Rocklin driver Kevin "Hollywood" Bender sat out front much of the race, as side by side competition was seen often behind him. With just a few laps left however, he appeared to get a bit tight, and Reeder took advantage, cutting past him to make the winning move. At the stripe in was Reeder over a fast-closing Kinser Endicott, Bender, Dylan Shrum and Shawn Whitney in the top-five. The remainder of the top-10 was filled out by Cody Shrum, Ben Wiesz, Dan Geil, Tim Dodson and Gage Meyers. A robust field of 27 Dwarf Cars competed at the Tribute to Al Hinds. That held very true for Cap Henry Saturday, April 27 at Fremont Speedway Presented by Gill Construction. Henry, who claimed the Fremont Speedway 410 sprint crown, the Attica Fremont Championship Series title and the Attica Raceway Park title in 2023, missed the feature Friday at Attica. He put it behind him on Level Performance/Gressman Powersports Night at Fremont, leading all 30 laps of the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 Sprint A-main to score the $4,000 payday. Henry had to survive a late race caution to earn his 19th career victory at "The Track That Action Built." He held off a charging Travis Philo, DJ Foos, last week's winner Cale Thomas and Friday night's Attica winner Skylar Gee to visit the Beaverdam Fleet Services Victory Lane. "I never doubted Zack (Myers) and my guys. We've either been really fast or we shouldn't be at the race track. It's either we win it or don't show up. Zack went through this thing front to back today. He never gives up. We really got lucky there at the end with the cautions. I had ripped off all the tear-offs that thing by like lap 10 and I was just hanging on," said Henry of his Jeff Ward Demolition, Premier Planning Services, Ohio Logistics, Primal Tee Shop, Elliott's Custom Trailers and Carts, FK Rod Ends, Griff's Engines backed #33W. Thomas' fourth place run will keep him atop the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series Presented by the Baumann Auto Group standings. The Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature came down to the last lap. A caution necessitated a green-white-checkered finish and in the final corners on the last lap leader John Ivy and Friday night's Attica winner Tyler Shullick raced side by side and banged wheels. Ivy held off Shullick for his 62nd career Fremont victory. Shullick, Jamie Miller, Bryan Sebetto and Seth Schneider rounded out the top five. Ivy, who is now tied for fourth on Fremont's all-time win list with Gug Keegan, put himself in contention for the title of the NAPA of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales. "I saw Tyler stick his nose down there and I thought well I have to try something. I knew Tyler wouldn't take me out…he's a good racer and he will win his fair share. I just have to get as many as I can now…I'm not getting any younger," said Ivy beside his C&N Construction Supplies, Atkinson Farm, Pub 400, Fox Painting, Sonny's Machine & Welding, Kistler Racing Products, Level Performance, Rohr Total Lawn Care, Level Performance, Level Utilities, SC Atkinson Farms, MRE of Ohio, Welty Financial Services, Dave Story Equipment & Repair, Napa of Bryan, Minich Installations, Meade Motorcars backed #49i Heavy rains struck the speedway just prior to the planned drivers' meeting which caused an over three hour delay in getting the racing surface in shape. Because of the lateness, Fremont Speedway Promoter Rich Farm approached the Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck teams about cancelling their portion of the night's program in exchange for doubling their purse - from first in the A-feature to last in the B-feature - for next week and the majority of the teams were in agreement. Fremont Speedway Presented by Gill Construction will be back in action on Family Fun Night, Saturday, May 4 with the dirt trucks, 305 sprints and the USAC D2 Midgets in action.
